Analytics Accelerator for Insurance

The Analytics Accelerator for Insurance (fig. 1) was the first project I worked on at Deloitte's VizStudio. It gave me the opportunity to experiment with new interaction techniques and test those theories with real-life users. During the design process, I led client visioning sessions with our project partners. In those sessions, my team used a custom design thinking approach to focus on business questions and persona modeling. During the session, we identified an insurance executive persona who needed a tool to make quick decisions in the face of an impending natural disaster. Simulating the impact of a hurricane gave her a projected view of the high impact areas. Interactions like drawing on the map made it easy to calculate an estimated risk profile. Drawing a target area gives the user a roll-up of policy impact, what the resulting risk valuation is, and how many agents are in the area. One thing we picked up on during our session was the need for action at the end of the analysis. As such, we added agent contact information into the system. This helped our client move from a reactive position to a proactive capability.
